Street Sign

Using Pavement Signs This Christmas by Timothy Capper
Christmas is the most profitable time of year for most stores. The hustle and bustle of the occasion carries with it happy go lucky buyers who are eager to spend their cash on gifts for friends and loved ones. These happy shoppers also like to spend a little money on themselves while they are in the purchasing mood. One of the best ways to attract Christmas shoppers is to appeal to them through a pavement sign
Pavement signs are an economical and simple way to advertise and many small business owners are using them more and more. During the holiday season, shoppers are inundated with media advertising from television, radio, the Internet, direct mailing and billboards. The advantage of a-boards is that they are right there in front of the store, advertising something that is happening right then. It is convenient for the shopper to see the ad, step into the shop and buy in that moment. In addition to placing the board directly in front of a business, shop owners may also position them in highly trafficked areas near their place of business.
The key to effective seasonal signage is to make it festive, but readable at the same time. Making your sign eye catching and attention getting without being obnoxious is crucial.
Some effective ideas for a pavement sign at the holiday season might include using bright, red and green Christmas colored lettering to announce special sales. Shop keepers can help holiday shoppers get into the spending spirit by stringing tiny white lights around the swing board or by hanging fresh garlands or wreaths on the signs. They can also be used to appeal to shoppers who want to support their local community stores during Christmas by displaying big, easy to read lettering that describes the benefits of shopping locally.
Shop keepers can promote “today only” specials, to drive traffic to the business. You could advertise free samples available inside the store while supplies last, sure to intrigue holiday shoppers. Additionally, the signs may say that a discount will be applied to any purchase of the full product the shoppers have sampled for free.
Promoting a holiday open house on your a-board is a great way to entice Christmas shoppers into a business. Offering free cocoa, cookies and live music adds to the festive atmosphere and will put shoppers in a happy mood. Use it to announce an end of the year clearance sale or to advertise extended holiday shopping hours.
They can be used to direct traffic into the store by simply saying, “Step inside for incredible Christmas savings,” or “Come on in and taste grandma’s fresh baked gingerbread.” Inviting customers to come in to the shop adds a personal touch, as if the customer is being welcomed into a home for the holidays. The idea is to inform and to put customers into a warm, pleasant mood that goes hand in hand with purchasing gifts.
Pavement signs by nature are an old fashioned way to advertise. They add a quaint, Dickensesque charm to the streets that is perfect for Christmas time. Utilizing a pavement sign to attract Christmas shoppers is a brilliant advertising strategy that, when implemented properly, can be very lucrative to business owners.
